Azerbaijanis often consume a traditional drink called sherbet that is made by boiling sugar and freshly squeezed fruit or plant juices. Even though the drink does not contain alcohol, it has an intoxicating effect. Other popular cold beverages include dyushes (pear lemonade), tarkhun (tarragon soda), qatiq (similar to other popular yogurt drinks kefir or ayran), and many of the natural mineral waters such as Badamli, Sirab, Istisu, Vaykhir, Shollar, and others.
