Hellenistic Influences
Alexander the Great conquered ancient Azerbaijan in 330 B.C.E. After his death in 323 B.C.E., the eastern portions of his empire remained heavily influenced by Hellenistic culture, a cultural legacy that left a lasting mark on Azerbaijan as well as on the entire region.
The Alexander Mosaic depicts the battle between Darius III of Achaemenid Persia and the Macedonian ruler Alexander the Great. A floor mosaic from the 1st century B.C.E., it was found in the House of the Faun in the Italian city of Pompeii.
